Saturday was Cookie day in my house.
I started a tradition many years ago of setting aside the first weekend in December….
no exceptions….
for cookie baking day.
I wanted to be able to spend time with my daughters and all my grandchildren
in the midst of all the busyness of the season.
So, on the first Friday in December, the adults would get together to
bake cookies,
have lunch
Then, on Saturday, all the kids would bake and/or decorate cookies.
We’ve tweaked it a bit over the years to accommodate various issues but, basically,
it remains the same format.
This year, my oldest has moved out of state with three of my grand-daughters
so they baked at their house in Charleston SC.
That’s the rule, if we can’t be together,
then you still bake on that day and call and tell us how it’s going!
Additionally, my youngest and I decided to change the adult day to Thursday
since the 2 1/2 yr old could be at preschool while we baked.
But Saturday, we all gathered to watch the kids decorate cookies.
Seven all together.
They had a great time!
Hunter, my youngest grandson took it very seriously and never lost interest.
Unless he became weak with hunger and had to have a snack
Shockingly, even the 17 yr old football player rolled out of bed at 9:30 to join in!
Hunter received lots of instruction from the more experienced decorators….

Creativity was virtually exploding
This was a star with a couple broken points that became a stocking
Santa showed up early
Girls were dressed…
Mittens got icing cuffs…
And there were never enough sprinkles.
The final results were impressive
A frenzy of decorating that lasted about 2 hours
followed by a frenzy of cleaning that lasted an hour.
Same Time Next Year…….
