Movies That Inspire Me: Life As We Know It

Good morning all! Today is the last installment of movie houses that have inspired me.
I have enjoyed posting it and hope you have enjoyed seeing some great movie houses.
The list of great houses is Looooooong…..
and I could post every day for a year and still probably have something to show!

Life As We Know It is a movie I haven’t seen yet. I came across the pictures
when I was on Hooked on Houses (I hope you’ve had a chance to visit there)
and thought it was a very current look so I included it.
I have heard it called the Pottery Barn house, so if you like that eclectic look
you’ll like this!

The original house is in Atlanta and I’m going to show you a couple shots of the
original first. This is the back of the house which was really nice…

Here is the real family room.

coffered ceiling with beadboard
tall windows with high transom
checked drapes
good molding around the doors
a little too brown for me and I’d have to transform the fireplace

simply fabulous arched doorways
pretty fireplace
heavy molding around doorways
look at the pretty long view through the doorways
does it need a chandelier?
very impressive height
gorgeous bed
once again, nice molding
soothing palette
fireplace in bedroom…YES
beadboard ceiling
rustic wood floor
trunk/chest coffee table
arched windows
white painted brick walls
outdoor lighting using a lamp, cozy

Now, the movie house.
First, I’ll tell you that there are not many shots available
which give full views of the rooms.
The Hooked on Houses gal said she would add more when the movie came out on DVD.
But, you will see that the expansive size of the original, inspiration house was
reduced considerably.
I think directors often want to make movie houses more realistic for the average
family, especially when they are doing a movie (supposedly) about an
“average” family.
interior french doors with sidelights AND transoms….pretty
wood floors
detail moldings
Pottery Barn eclectic feel in decor
another view shows matching french doors leading outside
coffered ceiling….maybe beadboard too
I think this is the family room
like this fireplace better
plantation shutters on window
nice moldings and windowsills around windows
cute chairs!
not sure where this is
but there’s an accident waiting to happen on those steps!
I do like the different levels

glass fronted white cabinets
dark countertops
use of the area above the cabinets

I’ll get this movie when it comes out on DVD. I’d like to see more of this house.
Have you seen this movie? What did you think of the house?

  1. What an incredible house! Thanks for all these house posts…I have loved them all!

  2. I love watching movies more for the interior peeks inside homes then for the movie plot itself. My favorites are the beautiful English movies in days gone by!
