Trash to Treasure

This past week I showed you some of my thrift store finds.

I didn’t show you this one…
An angel with a lamp in her butt…..yes it’s true.
Some manufacturing decisions result in real bloopers!
But, for those of us who like to make things look better…
it was a great find!

I was taken by her little face and her hair blowing back.

And she was $3.98…”as is”…were they worried because there was no shade?

First step in the makeover….remove the lamp part from the buttock area…

I didn’t show that part because of HIPPA…
but I’m a nurse so you can be sure it was done properly.

Had to cover these leftover holes

So, some tape to give me something to work against

A little filler….goes on pink then turns white when it’s ready to paint…
love this stuff.
I’ve painted over not quite dry caulk/fill MANY times….
remember me, the impatient decorator?

Then a coat of gray paint…yes, it’s still wet so that’s why it’s shiny

Now the fun part….gesso!
I want to tell you that I have been using gesso for years on projects
but I have to give credit to Rosemary at Villabarnes for making it SO well known.
So mosey on over there if you want to see some beautiful creations.

Paint on the gesso and wipe it off with a dry cloth.
Keep doing that until you get the look you want.

What do you think now?

And my favorite one…

She’ll look great on my new bookcase!

  4. Hi there, this one is adorable. Thanks for the tip about Gesso. I have some but thought it was only good for covering a canvas. Next time I find a treasure like that I will not hesitate to bring it home and work on it with Gesso. I have recently found your blog and am now following you, and will visit often. Please stop by my blog and perhaps you would like to follow me also. Have a wonderful day. Hugs, Chris

  16. I love the lamp but I have to tell you for the most part the blogs I like to follow are the ones with a good sense of humor. I was giggling all the way through your description of what you were doing. I signed up for emails, I will be following you from now on.
