Ballard Wannabe

I poured a glass of wine at 6:45 am today.
I knew THAT would get your attention!

I don’t know about you, but when I don’t have some big project going
like the Burlap Table
or
or
I have to really put my thinking cap on when I need to write a post.
I tend to be a big project kind of gal and am always…I mean
 ALWAYS
surprised when some little thing
that I think is not important enough to write about
gets comments.
WIERD

So, I wander around the house with the camera, looking for something to say.
Most of my house in in various stages of completion.
One spot looks pretty good, but I can’t take a whole shot of the room
because of all the parts that don’t go well with the good part….does that make sense?
Some of the blogs out there are pretty intimidating to me.
The houses are gorgeous and there are drapes that coordinate with the furniture
and the furniture is slipcovered in white
(do you know what THAT costs?)
and the rug matches and there are fresh flowers and…….
Oh my………
Now, some folks I give a TOTAL pass to because they live in California
and they just can’t help themselves.
I mean, from what I hear, there’s no humidity
(so no mildew like I have on my porch cushions)
no flying gnats and mosquitos
so they can dine outside on their gorgeous patios with the fireplaces
and MORE non-mildewed cushions, AND pillows
AND tablecloths
PLUS, roses and other gorgeous flowers apparently bloom endlessly
because all the pics have fresh flowers
(or they have an actual flower market nearby $$$$).
I confess…..
I have BLOG ENVY!
OK…I’m done….this isn’t going to be a big old whiny post.
I am a VERY lucky gal and have a beautiful home
AND IN TRUTH
if it wasn’t for these gorgeous, lovely blogs…
I’d still be sitting in my unfinished house, looking at magazines,
with the Mongoloan horde slamming around
and wishing I could muster the energy to finish some projects!
This blogging thing has done me a WORLD of good….so
THANK YOU BEAUTIFUL BLOGGERS!
I finish MORE projects than I ever have and I work to keep my house and garden
prettier than I ever have…..YAY!!
I owe it all to you!!

OK, back to the wandering blogger….
I dream of
long for
covet
the day when I can be ahead of the game and have a post written
and SCHEDULED to post.
Like
I don’t even have to BE there
it just shows up on schedule!!!
If ever……

MEANTIME
I wander around thinking of what to do
I took a couple pics of the bathroom
This was last night so you have to appreciate the overhead light problem
This is an antique tall folding chair.
We think it might have been used for a sporting event umpire…..like tennis
A tin carrier from WUSLU has some  vintage
Ivory soap and some goats milk soap from a local farm

Nice, but not much to post about…..
Maybe this……it hangs on the door to my studio…
What can I say? I bought this?
I did, but can it take up a whole post?

So, I gave up and sat down for some inspiration magazine browsing.
I call it RESEARCH...preferably with a glass of wine.
I grabbed the newest Ballard catalog
( I swannee….I think I get two a week, HOW can that be cost effective?)

Anyway, within the first few pages I spied this
Well now, just hold on a minute!
$129 ???
I do believe I have something like this already……
Why yes indeedy I do!
I found this last week at the thrift store for
$8
AHA….my project for Wednesday! YAY!
Out to the garage…so more bad flourescent light pictures
gesso….2 coats
After it’s dry….HURRY UP
some sandpaper scuffing up
good old AS dark wax…I’m starting to LOVE this stuff
I’m really happy with how it came out….what do you think?

And that’s why I poured a glass of wine at 6:45 am
what were YOU thinking?

Comments

  1. Cute! I was about to call you and schedule an intervention thinking you were drinking too early and the Mongolian Horde had finally won! Glad it was just a lovely post joke 🙂

  2. This looks really good. I LIKE people who drink at 6:45 in the morning – after all it is grape juice…. thanks for the table plug.

  3. The question IS, how many neighbors saw you with a glass of wine at 6:45 am?

It’s every bit as lovely as the one in Ballard’s.

  4. As a Californian transplanted to Virginia, i so get it! LOL! Their is nothing i like more than a thrift store find you can turn into a pricey looking knock-off! Way to go Miss!

  5. First of all…I liked my old comment section where I could reply to EACH person…so I’ve started replying by email and only occasionally come here and responding. That COULD be bad because everyone may not get an email BACK from me….NOT GOOD. Because I read EACH AND EVERY comment I get and ALWAYS respond. {sigh}
Just when I think I have this blogging system figured out….I worry that I don’t….
SO, today…to all of you …THANKS!!! I hope you got my emails! Let me know if you didn’t and I’ll see if I can fix this system!

  6. Well, right now were are about 1hr from the Tennessee border, but we will be moving to no. va. as soon as we get this house sold, whenever that will be.

  7. Looks awesome…wonderful job! I am now a follower of your blog and look forward to return visits. I invite you to join me as well on my blog at http://atastefultouch.blogspot.com
    Hugs, Gayle.

  8. I really like the look of your vase with the dark wax. Need to get some of that. Interesting blog. Good job. Found you at Mrs. Hinds Class.
    Blessings,
    Audrey Z. @ Timeless Treasures.

  9. Love this posting! Sometimes I get so intimidated I want to shut my blog down and quit blogging. I don’t join too many of the parties because I don’t have anything spectactular to show off. I love reading all these gorgeous blogs it’s like having a zillion magazines at my fingertips. I’ll carry one and keep going, maybe one day I’ll get the hang of decorating.

Love the way you transformed your vase, certainly worth a glass of wine in celebration even if it was at 6 AM

  10. ha ha! sounds like me- wandering through my house… what can i do today? and drinking wine at 6:45 am sounds about right, too. 😉

  11. LOL…I was cracking up, because you are so right. Some of the silliest posts of mine, have received the most comments. Like for instance a lamp shade I did over a year ago, that I added ribbon and a poppy to it…LOOKED adorable, but 92 comments later LOL! It truly is the little things. Love your piece, it is looking good. Thanks for sharing with the reunion party. Glad you are enjoying blogging. Keep up the good work.

  12. I’m visiting from the reunion party and just love anything Ballard or PB! Your project turned out fabulous, really looks like a Ballard one! Lucky you finding it at a thrift store!

  13. Sorry, forgot to add that I’m your newest follower on GFC and Linky Follower, hope you stop by soon!

  14. I love this post! I love that you shared honestly and shared the process that led up to your project. And that urn is fantastic!! I LOVE the way it turned out. Now I’m jealous. 😉 Thanks for sharing at Show & Tell.

  15. Celebration wine for a job well done, that’s what I think. And about California since part of me resembles those comments…. that is why people love it there, the weather. The part I miss the most as far as home decorating might go is the patio experience.

  16. I could use a glass C:

Happy reunion day, visiting from the wonderful Debbie’s.

  17. I’m visiting from the reunion party. I really enjoyed this post. I NEVER have posts ready ahead of time. And I’ll have to admit-the wine at 6:30 got my attention! I’m painting an urn today and I wondered how the dark wax would do on it. Now I’m headed back outside to apply it!

  18. I think you are hysterical!! We think so much alike…starting with the wine lol Love what you did with the urn…great pictures too!
Sit back relax and have another glass of wine…I will too! Then we will be ready to post again! lol
    Blessings My Friend,

  19. That turned out fantastic! Thanx for coming to the party!

  20. Beautiful! What a lucky find. I guess the 6:45 wine was better than a 6:45 whine! Especially in pictures. (I hear you on that pre-scheduled – plan ahead- dreaming). I’m not even close.

  21. This looks fantastic… now I have Blog Envy… hee hee! Thanks for your honesty and sharing of that beautiful piece. Love it!

    Take care,

    Trish

  22. I SO love the way you write. I found you threw From My Front Porch to Yours and happy to report you pulled me in. I’m now following your blog. I LOVE that you’re devoted to getting a post in. I tend to have the same problem. Thinking maybe I need to just walk around my non-flower hosting home : ). If ya get a chance, please stop by and check out my lil’ piece of Blog-land … http://www.deannario.com
    Have a wonderful day ~
