Decoupaged Map Chair

I had some wifi trouble yesterday so I am a day late with this!

I tried another shade of the Fusion Mineral Paint out on a vintage desk chair.

This is Inglenook….one of my new favorite colors….beautiful isn’t it?

I had a vintage captain’s chair I wanted to paint. And, I wanted to decoupage the seat with a map! I thought it would look great with Inglenook…what with all that water and everything….

I have been in search of paper maps for awhile….with NO luck…..really…NONE.

If I did spy a map at the thrift store it was always laminated.ย

I know no one uses real maps anymore so I have been surprised at the trouble I’ve had. But, I think maps are something people tend to throw away rather than take to the thrift.

I was in Michaels one day and went to the Martha Stewart aisle (I always go there just to check out her stuff….which is always pretty great) and what did I see? Map decoupage paper! YAY! I grabbed a roll and went home to start on the chair.

I will tell you that I did a poor job documenting this…..I have no before picture and not any “along the way” pictures.

Sorry about that! But, decoupaging is pretty easy and straightforward. If you want some instruction, you can check out my Decoupaged Deer from last Christmas.

After I painted the chair I decoupaged the seat and part of the back with the MS paper. It matched the Inglenook shade so perfectly!

I normally just use ModPodge for decoupage but in my Fusion Retailer Kit I had some Transfer Gel. I hadn’t tried it yet but I have been using an artists gel medium for years to transfer images. Transfer gel works like a glue because you can also use ModPodge to transfer images. I thought I’d give this Fusion Transfer Gel a try. I loved it for several reasons. It is very light and spreads well and evenly, it dried perfectly clear with NO clouding at all, and it has a nice, matte finish so it is not noticeable if I go beyond my decoupage area.

I made sure to tear some of the titles and things off so I could place them just where I wanted them.

I then used some sandpaper to distress the arms just a little…..where hands would have touched all the time.

I remembered that I didn’t have a picture of the distressed arms on Saturday so I headed to the shop to snap a quick one to add to the post…..the chair had sold! In two days! So, you can’t see that but I’m happy!

After I distressed it, I used the Fusion Tough Coat over everything……decoupage too.

I was very happy with how it turned out….and obviously, so was a customer!

The next shade I am trying is Renfrew Blue…….it’s really bright for me but SO pretty!
