Rustic Fall Table Centerpiece

It is still very warm weather here in the South. The other day when I was returning from a furniture delivery w-a-a-a-y out in the back of beyond…I followed a truck overflowing with pumpkins. It was the first one I had seen. Then, just yesterday I saw one of the larger farm markets had big boxes of pumpkins getting unloaded. So, I guess it’s time for me to actually do some sort of Fall post…..but of course, I’m not ready for that. So, today you’re getting a re-tread from 2012…..I need to find this box….it looks pretty darn good and I need to copy myself!

October 2012

I promised to show you some more areas of the living room getting the Fall treatment.
You’ve seen the mantel already.
Here is the arrangement I did for the coffee table. A centerpiece is not too hard as long as the right elements are included. In this case Fall colors, rustic pieces and….what else, a pumpkin…..

I found this rustic box when I went up to Amherst Va for a show. My SIL is the best at finding junk shops and she took me to one of her favorites. I found this box, a large old rusty pot lid that I want to paint something on (someday) and that little white bench I used on the back porch.

I knew as soon as I saw it that this box would work great on my kitchen island, where I had it for a short bit……too crowded…or the coffee table…it’s new home.

I filled it with gourds, pumpkins, and a bit of the leftover bittersweet. I mixed in some artificial apples and pears too. I made a quick burlap runner for looks but also because the bottom of the box is kind of rough.
I found four red pillows at the thrift store a few weeks ago. I really bought them to take the forms out and make some new pillows but when I needed some color in the picture, I put them on the dark brown sofas and didn’t hate them as much as I thought I would!
Surprise decorating….always fun!

Don’t you love that pierced copper candle cover? It fits perfectly around the large oval Colonial candles that I love. I found it a couple years ago at Home Goods and there was only one. Ever since, I always look in the candle section hoping to find another!
Do you do that?
I have several items that I wish I could find more of and am always keeping them in the back of my mind when I’m there…..occasionally, I score another one and it’s always a nice surprise.
But, so far, no more copper candle covers……

You can see a bit of this buffet behind the sofa. I didn’t want any more color…the red pillows were already a lot for me so I just used a big basket of my dried hydrangeas and some leftover scraps of grapevine here.
The shades on these lamps need to go but I haven’t found anything I like better so there they are. They’re a bit too pinkish/flesh toned for me. They’re old as the hills too. I’ve been too lazy to re do them myself. They’re the perfect size and shape too….sigh…another project in the wings!

The basket was another thrift store find. That huge medallion is about 10+ years old and I’ve never grown tired of it. The buffet is the first piece of thrift store furniture I bought and painted about 10 yrs ago. Still love that too.

There were so many hydrangea blooms this year that I gave some away to two blogger friends, gave each of my daughters big bunches and still have this basket full and some more out in the potting shed! Plus I sold quite a few bunches on ETSY…..really an abundant year.

I didn’t have near THAT many hydrangea blooms this year! I remember wondering if anyone would buy those dried hydrangeas when I put them on ETSY…..they went like hotcakes! I was so surprised… Have a wonderful weekend!

  2. Love this (again!) and I got NO hydrangeas this year on 6 of my bushes and just a few on all the other. Our Virginius clematis didn’t blossom, either, and it always has the best smell. I hope I get my olive blossoms, or I will be ticked!

  3. I just love the dried hydrangeas… I am just the opposite these days… I seem to be craving more color.. I just love all the beautiful Fall colors that are natural in creation.. itching for some reds in my home this year.. your Fall centerpiece is just beautiful. Blessings!

  4. L – your pics are inspirational and gorgeous.

Now I have a question for you about those “too pinky” lampshades. I have two antique frenchies matching lamps at my make-up table with real silk antique shades……..and they aren’t pinky enough for my space, they’re creamy ivory and my base color is more pink b/c of my pickled oak doors.

Can you send me close up and measurements of those shades? If they work perhaps we could trade and get the right colors we need – if size is right. Mine aren’t bells, they are cylinders. I can get a pic to you emailed if you are at all interested.

Doesn’t hurt to try I guess? Glad your hydrangeas sold well – I love them in that basket, your buffet, your awesome medallion wall art – all of it is gorgeous.

    • Thanks so much for the nice words! You are placing too much on those lampshades…seriously…they came from WalMart. I have since found better shades and moved those somewhere else. But if you want to drive to Virginia, I’ll arm wrestle you for them. Remember, I haul furniture for a living…I’m just sayin’.

  5. PS

If you go to the Home Goods website you can post pics of what you are looking for more of – like one more chair, 4 more napkins, one more plate, etc. I would think you may have some luck locating one of those pretty candle holders that way – may as well, huh?

It’s an awesome website – a great way to feature pretty pics of your HG purchases too. And Lord knows we all love to shop there enough, huh? It’s hands-down my very favorite store to browse in. ♥

  6. Everything is beautiful! And I so envy your hydrangeas. I got one planted this year and our neighbor came over and “helped” mow (it was getting dang dark) and he mowed my hydrangea. That crazy thing is coming back!
